Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain  –  The Gulf Hotel Bahrain Convention & Spa signed a partnership agreement with Michelin starred Chef Giancarlo Perbellini who will take control of the Hotel’s renowned Italian restaurant La Pergola, which will be rebranded as “La Pergola by Perbellini”.
The new outlet will be his first in the Middle East, expanding his portfolio of restaurants in Italy, United States and Hong Kong, which includes the 2 Michelin Star Casa Perbellini in  Verona, the 1 Michelin star Dopolavoro in Venice the popular  Locanda restaurant in Kowloon and the Rana in New York
The “Artisan Cook” as he likes to define himself, Chef Perbellini initially worked in the family patisserie where he developed a passion for pastry-making & cuisine to which he decided to dedicate his studies and career.  His passion led him to important restaurants inside and outside Italy tempering the taste of tradition with refined innovation.
In 1992, his hard work produced its first results: he was awarded First Place in the “Chef Europeen du Poisson” competition. By 1996, he had earned his first Michelin star, with his second star being awarded in 2002, to which were added three forks from the Gambero Rosso guide in 2005.
Ginacarlo Perbellini started exporting Italian culinary excellence abroad with the opening of the restaurant Rana in New York in November 2012, then in 2014 he opened Locanda in Hong Kong.
His restaurant “Casa Perbellini” was opened in December 2014, to rave reviews and gained numerous awards. In 2016, the restaurant was included in the “Michelin Guide 2016” and awarded a coveted two stars. In the same Guide, his restaurant Dopolavaro on Rose Island in Venice, which he opened in 2015, was also awarded one Michelin star.
Garfield Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Hotels Group, said “La Pergola is one of the renowned Italian restaurants in Bahrain and we are delighted to be able to work with Chef Giancarlo Perbellini to take the outlet to a whole new level.   The restaurant will be redesigned and refurbished in the first half of 2018 and will be reopened in the second half of 2018 as ‘La Pergola by Perbellini’.  This will be the Gulf Hotel’s second venture with a Michelin starred chef, following on from the introduction of Rasoi by Vineet in 2015, which was voted best restaurant in Bahrain in 2017.
